Area 305 Wins At 2003 "Tu Música" Awards

Miami Pop Sensation Receives First Music Award As "Best Duo or Group Recording"

Woodland Hills, CA -- Area 305, Miami’s hottest Latin Pop act synonymous with music genius Rudy Perez, received the first music award in their career at the 2003 “Tu Música”’ Awards in Puerto Rico for “Best Duo or Group Recording,” for their self-titled debut album with Univision Records.

Celebrating its 10th anniversary, the 2003 “Tu Música” Awards took place this past August 19, 2003 at the San Juan Fine Arts Palace, where Area 305 was pleasantly surprised after being announced as the winners for “Best Duo or Group Recording” for their first album produced by internationally renowned Rudy Perez.

Area 305 is defined by its eclectic membership: former Cuban classical prodigy Nelson Cano on vocals, percussion and keyboards; Tony Choy, born in Cuba of African and Chinese descent, on lead vocals and bass; U.S.-born and Latin America-reared Jonathan Fuzessy on lead vocals and guitar; and Ricky Ruiz, raised in Puerto Rico, on lead vocals and keyboards.  Undoubtedly, the band’s fresh and cutting edge style has put the Miami sound back on the Latin music scene.

“This is the best gift we could receive as we celebrate this month the one year anniversary of our album’s release. This accomplishment also serves as an incentive for us to keep working harder and to continue making great music for our Latin audience,” stated Area 305 members.

Responsible for hits such as “Donde Estaras” (Where Are You), “Si No Estas” (If You’re Not Here) and most recently “Vive La Vida” (Live It Up), Area 305 continues plowing its own path in the competitive world of Latin pop, evidenced by the recent industry award nominations garnered for “Best New Artist” at the 2003 Lo Nuestro Latin Music Awards and the Hot Latin Track Airplay of The Year/Tropical for “Si No Estas” at the 2003 Billboard Latin Music Awards.

Currently, their third single “Vive La Vida” holds the # 9 position on Billboard’s Hot Latin Tracks and is the ‘Greatest Gainer’ on the chart this week.
