Children from Pico Union Enjoy Circus Fun and School Donations at 2002 Edition of "La Feria de los Niños"
Local community organizations partner with La Curacao, KMEX-TV and
KFTR-TV to promote educational and recreational opportunities available to youth. La Feria De Los Niños also provides scholarship awards and school donations to Pico Union schools.
Los Angeles, CA -- Elephant rides, circus acts, a variety of family entertainment along with more than 25 community non-profits and Danna Paola, Univision’s seven-year old telenovela star from Maria Belén will gather for the 7th Annual "La Feria de los Niños" [The Children's Fair] on Saturday, August 10, 2002. "La Feria De Los Niños" is a free community event and will be held at the La Curacao parking lot located at 1605 West Olympic Blvd. (at Union) from 3p.m. to 8p.m.
One of the major highlights of "La Feria de Los Niños" will include the "Be a Star Program" which will award much needed school supplies to five elementary schools in the Pico Union district, based on participation from each school on the day of the event. A variety of donations will be made to the schools, including Panasonic DVD/VCR televisions for each participating school.
With last year's attendance exceeding over 20,000 people, and co-sponsored by La Curacao Retail Stores, KMEX-TV, Channel 34, KFTR-TV, Channel 46/ Telefutura, the focus for the event is to educate families on the activities and resources offered within the community to keep kids active and productive outside of school hours.
"Many children and parents are unaware of some of the wonderful non-profits in our community and they may not know the extent of the resources that these organizations offer to help children learn and grow in a healthy environment," said La Curacao Executive vice-president and Co-Owner, Jerry Azarkman. “ ‘La Feria de los Niños' brings together so many great resources in one location, offering an array of good choices for children to get involved in after school. It's done in such an entertaining way that children begin to associate the organizations with fun and enjoyment."
The organizations that will be participating in "La Feria de los Niños" include: Access Dental, The Angel Step Inn, American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO), Banco Popular, California Highway Patrol, California Hospital Medical Center, Clinica Romero, Councilman Ed Reyes, Dept of Recreation & Parks, Dr. David Lewendowski, LAPD- Rampart, Mexican American Chamber of Commerce, Mexican American Opportunity Foundation, Molina Health Care, New Economics for Women, Padres Contra El Cancer, Rescatando Salud, and Universal Care.
Child telenovela star Danna Paola of the Univision's hit primetime program Maria Belén, is one of many-featured celebrity guests who will be in attendance at "La Feria de Los Niños". The seven-year-old thespian, along with on-air personalities from KMEX-TV and KFTR-Telefutura will be on hand to greet families throughout the event.
Additional highlights include performances by El Circo de Kiko, and the International Sonora Show, interactive stations for painting, sports, computer workshops, music acts, circus acts, elephant rides, clowns, jugglers, food booths and much more.
